Healthy Schools

The Healthy Schools Network is a statewide coalition dedicated to assuring that every child and school employee has an environmentally safe and healthy school.

As the chair of the Health Schools Working Group, in October 1999 AFC published a report, Neglected Buildings, Damaged Health: A 'Snapshot' of New York City Public School Environmental Conditions, which contains a detailed analyis of a survey of school conditions carried out by the New York City Healthy Schools Working Group. The report can be viewed online at the link above, or downloaded in Microsoft Word format here.

Also newly available from AFC for download are the Healthy School Environmental Action Guide and a legal memo entitled Overview of Federal, New York State and New York City Law regarding Environmental Health and Safety in Schools.

For information about the management of asthma in schools, see AsthmaMoms.
