Support Our Work

Every child in New York City has a right to learn.  For over 40 years AFC has protected that right for the children and youth most likely to fall through the cracks of our education system because of their poverty, race, disability, language barriers, homelessness or involvement in the foster care or juvenile justice systems. 

Last year, AFC served over 12,000 students and their families at a cost of only $147 per child helping them get the educational support they need to succeed in school.  Countless more benefitted from the reforms we advanced that made a real and lasting difference in the delivery of education in New York City’s public schools.  Our work is made possible because of the generosity of our supporters who help us protect the rights of New York City’s most vulnerable children to learn and to be successful in school and in life.

Your gift will help us to provide these students and their families with critical support such as expert advice through our HELPLINE, free legal services, or trainings and workshops to teach them self-advocacy skills.  AFC will then use those experiences to continue to be a powerful voice in New York City education policy, pressing for changes that improve educational opportunity for all of the city’s 1.1 million public school students.
