For over 40 years AFC has protected that right for the children and youth most likely to fall through the cracks of our education system because of their poverty, race, disability, language barriers, homelessness or involvement in the foster care or juvenile justice systems.
Each year thousands of vulnerable students and their families depend on AFC to help them get the educational support they need to succeed in school and in life. AFC protects every child’s right to learn by providing free legal services, leading trainings and workshops to teach students and families self-advocacy skills, and by using our experience in the trenches to influence New York City education policy and improve education opportunity for all of the city’s 1.1 million public school students.
and the children and families we serve.
