More than 150,000 NYC Students Experienced Homelessness Last Year
This week, AFC released new data showing that more than 154,000 NYC public school students—nearly 1 in every 7—experienced homelessness last year. This made 2024–25 the tenth consecutive year in which more than 100K students did not have a permanent place to call home.

When Zio, who is classified as autistic, came to AFC, he was 12 years old and had attended four different schools in six years, none of which had provided him with an appropriate education.
Richard was struggling to finish his last few high school credits and remaining Regents exams to graduate. AFC successfully advocated for tutoring, assistive technology, and testing accommodations that helped Richard cross the finish line and earn his diploma!
AFC found Delayney a new school placement for 8th and 9th grades, one that could provide both specialized academic instruction and a small, nurturing environment to support her socially and emotionally.
